Ministerial Pride

"For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:  I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;  I will be like the most High.  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit." (Isaiah 14:13-15)

These were the very words of Satan.  Satan wanted to exalt himself.  Yes, in Satan's view, it was time for God to "move over", because Satan was coming up the ladder.  (Many standing ovations please, and lots of wild applause!!)  The Great Satan is coming to make his appearance.  No one had better disagree with him.   If they do, then Satan will have them "dealt with".

I was not there when Satan led his wicked rebellion against God.  Nevertheless, this same attitude can be found among many so-called Fundamental Baptist preachers today.  It's called "Ministerial Pride".  It is the attitude that what God says does not matter.  No, THEY are "It".  What THEY say matters.  Heaven: open your gates wide.  The Baptist Preacher is coming!

Perhaps this sounds like some kind of joke to you.  I guess you must not have been around very many "ministerial circles".  The fact is, that there really are some proud, arrogant preachers out there -- preachers who follow hard after the very heart-attitude of Satan.  Such preachers want to exalt themselves "above the heights of the clouds".  They look down their "heavenly noses" upon other "mere mortal" preachers and those measly little "laity" people down in the pews.

Those laity people are like dumb animals  to him, because he, after all, is the Great Preacher.  They must not be allowed to think for themselves.  No, the Great Preacher must make all of their decisions for them.  These decisions include, (but are not limited to), financial decisions; whom to marry; what car to buy, any purchase that "the people" may make of over $1,000; where to live; with whom to live; and so on, and so forth.  No, they are just dumb laity people and he is the Great Preacher.  (Many, many more wild standing ovations, with thunderous applause, please!)

Are you a preacher?  Are you guilty of the great sin of pride?  Are you guilty before God of trying to exalt yourself above the other servants of Christ?  Are "your people" (the laity) the servants of Christ or of you?  Examine your heart!

Perhaps your heart has not been lifted up so high.  Perhaps you have not tried to turn your church, (with the help of your "assistants", of course), into something akin to a "Christian" Cult.  No, such a level of wickedness among preachers is still quite rare today.  Nevertheless, you may still have some of that wicked, Satanic "Pride of Life" deep down within your heart.

It is time to get rid of your pride.  Why have your ministry "put on a shelf" some day by Jesus because of your deep sin and wicked rebellion against the authority of Jesus and the Bible?  Do you think that God does not see the wicked sin of pride filling your heart?  God sees everything, including your prideful heart.  You are guilty of gross sin -- the gross sin of pride.

Many preachers are very worried about their "legacy".  Nevertheless, if you are a preacher, then what will be your true legacy?  Your true legacy will be whatever you have after your "wood, hay, and stubble" works of the flesh are all burned up at the Bema Judgment of Christ, (assuming that you are even "born again" in the first place).  If you are doing ministry to support your ego, to support your wallet, or to support any other central purpose other than obeying Jesus and the Bible, then your works will not stand on that Great Day of Judgment.  No, they will be burnt up, "as if by fire".

Do you want Jesus to say "good and faithful servant" to you at that Judgment?  If you are exalting yourself, then you are not exalting Christ.  Many times in the Bible, God says that the proud will be brought low.  God hateth a proud look -- your look.

It is high time that you repent.  If you have never put Jesus and the Bible first, it is time to repent, come and trust Jesus and get truly saved.  If you are trusting your "prayer"; "coming forward"; "believing Bible doctrine"; or any such "works of the flesh"; then you have never trusted Jesus Himself to save you from your sins.  You are still on the road to Hell, even if you are a preacher.

Come to Jesus.  Lay aside your wicked sin of pride.  Come to Jesus and get saved.  Do it now, while you still have a conscience and are still able, (unless you are already reprobate).  If you are truly saved, then repent and come to Jesus.

Get right now before God.  Get it settled.  Get ready for The Judgment.  Do it today, and may God bless you as you do it!
